A Brazilian wax is a growing trend stateside as more women choose to fully remove their hair. Not only is waxing a preferred method over shaving, complete hair removal of the bikini area offers several beneficial effects including:

Skin Health: When you get a Brazilian, you are actually getting more than just hair removal – you are also getting a gentle exfoliation of the area, removing the lifeless skin cells of the upper layer of your dermis.

Minimal Irritation: Getting a Brazilian is nothing like it is led to be on television or in movies. There are no loud ripping sounds or screams of pain. It is surprisingly gentle although if you have never done it before it can initially be slightly uncomfortable until you repeat the process and become used to this hair removal process.

Smoother Skin: With exfoliation naturally comes smoother skin. In addition, since the hair is removed at the root, there is no left-over stubble that can occur when shaving.

Thinner Hair: When you wax, whether it be a Brazilian or a leg waxing, the hair grows back much finer than it was before. This is also why, as you continue to get a Brazilian, the discomfort fades. Thinner hair is more easily waxed.

Longer Lasting: Shaving may buy you a day or two of ultra-smooth skin and then the stubble returns. Waxing on the other hand can last several weeks before there are any signs of regrowth.

Do’s and Don’ts

DO

  • Trim your hair to about one-quarter of an inch prior to your waxing appointment.
  • Relax! The less tense you are, the better your overall experience will be.
  • Wear cotton panties to your appointment. Following your waxing, you may be a bit sensitive to the touch and lace or other fabrics could irritate.

DON’T

  • Go tanning within 48 hours prior to your appointment.
  • Apply any numbing cream before your appointment. It really is not that painful, and the cream can actually make it more difficult for the wax to firmly grasp your hairs.
  • Drink alcohol or a large amount of caffeine before your visit. These items can cause your pores to restrict and lead to a more uncomfortable experience.

Also, it is important to let your esthetician know of any medications such as antibiotics or topical creams you are prescribed as they can interfere with the waxing process and your comfort.
