The Vitalize Chemical Peel® by SkinMedica® is a medium strength chemical peel. Designed for individuals with skin imperfections that range from mild to moderate, the Vitalize Peel® helps to smooth skin and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. The Vitalize Peel® is also ideal for visibly reducing acne scarring and visibly lighten dark spots caused by age or sun damage.

Generally, chemical peels are for individuals with lighter skin as stronger chemical peels target pigmentation – which can cause a poor reaction in someone with darker complexion. Due to its low level of salicylic acid and other active ingredients, the Vitalize Peel® is safe to use on all skin types, including light to dark complexions.

Vitalize Peel® Process

Pre-Treatment

A facial specialist will first consult with you about the goals you wish to achieve with your chemical peel to ensure the Vitalize Peel® is the best chemical peel option for you. Also, it is recommended to avoid any procedures for at least 3 days prior to your chemical peel that could have increased the sensitivity of your skin. This includes other facials or at home exfoliation products.

During Treatment

The SkinMedica® Vitalize Peel® product is applied to your face and left to sit for a few minutes. Some individuals report feeling tingling or a mild burning sensation, but this can vary on individual tolerance. If you feel any discomfort, please advise your facial specialist. A fan can be provided to provide a cooling sensation, or the peel can be removed prior to completion of treatment.

Post-Treatment

Following your chemical peel, you may experience some light peeling. Keep in mind that a chemical peel is an intense exfoliation and the peeling is normal. Once peeling is complete, a new, healthy and more radiant layer of skin is revealed. You’ll be able to visibly see an improvement in the smoothness of your face and an overall improved appearance in tone and texture.

Many patients also have a mild redness to their face, which is also very normal following any chemical peel and subsides within a day or two. Because new skin is more sensitive to the sun and the elements, it is advisable to wear sunscreen (broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher) prior to going outside and to limit the amount of time in the sun overall for at least a week. You’ll also be provided any additional after care procedures by a facial specialist.

Chemical Peels should not (and will not) be administered to pregnant or lactating women or those with an allergy to any of the product’s ingredients.
